Intel shows off first Medfield-powered Android phone with Blu-ray quality video playback

Intel’s intention to enter the smartphone and tablet space with a bang has been widely reported, but the company recently showed off the first smartphones and tablets to utilize the its Medfield mobile processor and the results were said to be impressive. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Technology Review blog reports that it was able to test a number of reference devices Intel created to show off the capabilities of its upcoming chipsets.

Acer's $699 15-inch ultrabook could undercut rumored 15-inch MacBook Air

Following the early successes of its of 11-inch and 13-inch ultrabooks, Acer has reportedly decided to build a brand new 15-inch ultrabook that may dramatically undercut the price of Apple’s rumored 15-inch MacBook Air. DigiTimes said Wednesday that Acer has already contracted Pegratron to build the new computer, and that the device could be priced as low as $699 — $300 cheaper than the entry-level 11-inch MacBook Air.

Amazon Brings Kindle Newsstand to iPad, Updates Kindle Fire


Amazon updated the Kindle app for iOS today, giving iPad users the ability to access publications from the Kindle Newsstand. Amazon's Newsstand offers over 400 full-color publications to Kindle Fire users. Apple's own Newsstand offers more app-like experiences from many of the same publishers.

Cognizant India gets in rejig mode

Nasdaq-listed Cognizant, which overtook Wipro earlier this year and is narrowing the revenue gap with Infosys, has kicked off a re-organisation plan to prepare itself for the year ahead. Cognizant CEO Francisco D'Souza sent out a mail to employees last week, a copy of which is with ET, communicating the changes and the model the company is likely to follow for 2012 and beyond. The company has also given a bunch of senior leaders added responsibilities, which signals it might be grooming the next level of leaders.

Govt wanted 358 items removed from Google's services


Google has received government requests for removal of 358 items from its services, including YouTube and Orkut, during the January-June period, according to a report by the internet search giant.The information assumes significance in the backdrop of the raging controversy over the screening of content on social networking sites.
