Google’s social networking site Orkut is still popular in India even as Facebook seems to have over-powered it in 8 out of 12 Asia-Pacific countries. The loyalty of Indian people towards Orkut is deep rooted and it will be very hard for Facebook to beat Orkut in India. Orkut reigned as the most visited social networking site in December 2008 with more than 12.8 million visitors, an increase of 81 percent from the previous year. India has performed against the tide and Orkut continues to get more users than any other site. Although Orkut lost out to Facebook in most countries of the world, its dominance in the fast emerging markets like India and Brazil put it in a strategic advantage over its rivals Facebook and MySpace.
