Social Media and Politics: for Good, or Just a Fad?

Back in 2008, the Republican Party seemed reluctant to get involved in a social media war with the Democrats, leaving the would-be battlefields of Facebook, Twitter and YouTube largely uncontested for their opponents. Although it may set a trend for more and more of these kinds of online events in the future, a number of problems were evident that raises the question of whether the use of social media tools in political campaigning is beneficial to democracy. As social media news site Mashable reports, though, it looks like they may have reconsidered this position in recent months. The internet has just scratched the surface and we can expect that this form of media will continue to grow. We can expect to see social media evolve as technology progresses. With Smartphone's, iPods, iPad's and other devices, being connected is the new norm.

Creating Successful Partnerships with Fellow Bloggers

Building a successful business through partnership is not a day job; it’s tough because if the business partners can’t withstand the storm the business will fall off the board. In order to reaching out to a fellow blogger one need to develop win-win situation. These are the four key areas that one has to focus on during the planning and promotion of the project.
  • Consistency
The main concern is not to lose readers when they go from blog to blog. First, there is a need to inform readers of the other gift guides by using a bulleted list near the front of the post. Second, we needed to create very similar pricing categories. The similar structure between each blog would serve as a way to connect the blogs together.
  • Promotion
Promotion can be done by using social media tools. Sending tweets to our followers about our own specific gift guide lists and retweeting the gift guide list of others. In addition, we focused on leaving comments on each other’s blog posts based on the theory that “more readers will leave comments if they see other readers commenting”.
  • Link Sharing
Reaching out to other well established blogs with the end goal of exchanging links can be very challenging when you have nothing to offer in return. This creative approach became a win-win situation for all involved as it offered link sharing and revenue.
  • Monetization
Using our own blog, we were given the freedom to use our own affiliate programs and track our own revenue.

5 Steps to Become a Better Social Media Marketer.

This is an important question, because a large number of companies have jumped into social media without any clear business strategy. If you want to be more effective with driving traffic to your website or blog with social media, here are five steps that are sure to improve your results.

  • Targeting the Right Sites
One of the first things you will need to do is find a few sites that will work well for you. The larger sites like Digg and StumbleUpon are popular choices because of the large traffic volumes that they send. Niche-specific social media site has high quality traffic where you can promote all types of content.

  •  Consistent Use
If you hope to ever become a true authority on social media, you’ll have to implement consistent use. As you use the site everyday you will be familiar with the work and will get to know more of the other consistent users.

  •  Development of Content those Appeals to the Audience
Driving traffic to your website through social media will require content development that meets the expectations of social media users. Creating blog content that targets social media users doesn’t mean that you have to alienate your subscribers, contrary to the opinion of some people.

  •  Networking and Helping Others
Networking on social media sites involves voting for the submissions of others, leaving comments, adding friends, and generally getting to know other users.

  •  Conversion
In most cases just getting traffic to a website will not be your ultimate goal. The conversion rate of social media traffic will usually be lower than the rates of other types of traffic, but the huge volumes sent by social media can offset a lower conversion rate and make it very valuable traffic.

Elements of a Marketing Campaign.

There are three elements required for a successful marketing campaign: market, message, and timing. The biggest element of the campaign is user interaction.
  • Market
The market must be sizable enough or have enough resources to support a business. A marketing-oriented business and its products are designed around satisfying the target market. Plan and defined the markets, products, and environments.
  •  Message
You have to understand the customer enough to be able to describe the wants, fears, problems and desires of the customer and how you’re offering solves or satisfies them. Focus on the content, appeal, structure, format, and source of the message to attract the end user.
  • Timing
The timing of the offering is critical. Markets tend to go through "waves" when they are receptive to certain products and messages.
